India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.12%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Healthcare and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.12%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.21%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Divi’s Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI), which rose 7.98% or 442.70 points to trade at 5,989.75 at the close. Meanwhile, Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) added 2.43% or 39.80 points to end at 1,680.50 and Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) was up 2.10% or 19.35 points to 939.15 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were ITC Ltd (NS:ITC), which fell 3.20% or 16.25 points to trade at 491.70 at the close. Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST) declined 2.55% or 65.75 points to end at 2,516.00 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) was down 1.77% or 49.85 points to 2,768.95.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which rose 2.15% to 939.65, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was up 1.92% to settle at 1,659.65 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which gained 1.80% to close at 12,760.95.

The worst performers were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 3.08% to 492.25 in late trade, Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which lost 2.21% to settle at 2,524.40 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 1.65% to 2,749.85 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1717 to 769 and 93 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2578 rose and 1194 declined, while 93 ended unchanged.

Shares in Divi’s Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI) rose to all time highs; gaining 7.98% or 442.70 to 5,989.75. Shares in Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) rose to all time highs; rising 2.43% or 39.80 to 1,680.50. Shares in Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) rose to 52-week highs; up 1.92% or 31.20 to 1,659.65.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.44% to 14.09.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.03% or 0.70 to $2,634.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.41% or 0.30 to hit $73.27 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.34% or 0.26 to trade at $76.92 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.04% to 83.97, while EUR/INR fell 0.07% to 92.10.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 102.37.
