India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 1.59%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Metals, Technology and Power sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.59% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 1.77%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 4.15% or 26.90 points to trade at 674.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) added 3.62% or 57.10 points to end at 1,634.90 and NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) was up 3.43% or 13.35 points to 403.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST), which fell 0.11% or 2.85 points to trade at 2,524.00 at the close. Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) declined 0.06% or 1.90 points to end at 3,365.55 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) was up 0.36% or 15.95 points to 4,495.30.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 3.68% to 1,635.75, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 3.53% to settle at 403.45 and JSW Steel Ltd (BO:JSTL) which gained 2.96% to close at 954.25.

The worst performers were Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 0.09% to 2,524.15 in late trade, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which gained 0.11% to settle at 3,370.00 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 0.40% to 4,503.20 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1568 to 892 and 26 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2205 rose and 1578 declined, while 111 ended unchanged.

Shares in Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.62% or 57.10 to 1,634.90. Shares in Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) rose to all time highs; rising 3.68% or 58.05 to 1,635.75.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.25% to 12.91 a new 1-month low.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.13% or 3.30 to $2,545.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.77% or 1.19 to hit $68.50 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.61% or 1.14 to trade at $71.75 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.04% to 83.95, while EUR/INR rose 0.02% to 92.51.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 101.73.
